AI Security & Anomaly Detection Hackathon
SAP Labs Monterrey · 2025
I designed and led the AI Security & Anomaly Detection Hackathon at SAP Labs Monterrey, in collaboration with Tecnológico de Monterrey. The goal: challenge students to build end-to-end anomaly detection solutions on SAP BTP and HANA, framed around real production concerns.
By the numbers
- 21 teams competed across the initial rounds
- 6 finalists built end-to-end solutions
- Judged on technical depth, real-world applicability, and presentation
My role
Designed the challenge statement, built the evaluation criteria, coordinated with mentors from SAP and the Tec, and ran the final judging session. This was as much a systems-design problem as an AI one — how do you give students a realistic slice of production infrastructure to work against, and evaluate their solutions fairly?
What I learned
Running a hackathon at this scale is a completely different skill from participating in one. Clear scoping, predictable environments, and good mentors matter more than the prize.
